Beowulf Essay

What exactly is a hero? Must a hero always be one who fights ? I say not, characteristics of a hero have evolved over time. Starting off as men in armor, warriors; to men who didn't take action but spoke on wisdom such as Gandi. Later following with superhero's such as Batman or Spiderman. Leading to a romantic stage of hero's and soon involving women as hero's as well.
Take Spiderman and Beowulf as an example. Although both viewed as hero's, both have their differences. Beowulf is a hero in earlier time. Characterized as a warrior of the time. He battles for the protection of others such as any other hero. But also does so with a sense of revenge and confidence . In my opinion doing it as a source of seeking some attention. He is viewed as a magnificently strong man, who dares to confront anyone and anything.
On the other hand Spiderman is given his powers, he is far from normal. This is an example of the idea of a hero transforming. Transformation from a natural powered person vs. a hero who is given extremely powerful powers. Beowulf faces more of a external conflict. Having to focus on Grendel, his mother and later the dragon. It continues as a constant battle to protect. Beowulf is the one who walks himself into the situation. Spiderman on the other hand is bit, later having to struggle internal conflicts. Unsure of himself and his abilities, causing him to step out of his element. Putting his strength into positive action.
The time period in which both hero's were glorified in are evident. Beowulf was in the earlier time. When men were obligated to be a form of protection and strength. Weakness was not an option in the earlier days. The story plot itself gives off the idea of older plots. Spiderman is seen in the era where superhero's and comics were finding it's way into the literature world. It's plot being the typical, Superhero minding it's own business when all of a sudden he sees a citizen in danger.
It's obvious to say both are hero's no doubt about that. But both face differenced because of the time era both were publicized.

Will Study For Food

With being a bit unsure of the amount of money needed for a csu student. I went ahead and used CalStateedu to give me estimates.
I plan to receive as much scholarship as possible. The more scholarships the more money that will be saved up for my younger sister. The remaining costs are planned to be paid with my dad's vet money. Therefore, with my sister being only two years apart. I hold the weight of spending that money wisely.

We headed to the public library, as I approached the librarian for assistance she seemed busy. So in no particular order I handed her the list of about 6 books I was interested in . My Opinio isn't (A) Right

"the law gives all citizens a right to life. your right to live means that everyone else has a duty not to kill you. Does your right to life mean that others have a duty to feed you, to house you or to provide you with medical care?"

* do you have the right to replace other peoples opinion with yours?
* social contract / interdependence= all depending on each other
*natural rights than priveledge
*limbic= part of brain that deals with emotion
*Schema= make sense out of the worls
" fiction is the lie that tells the truth"
"how many British citizens are aware for example that they have a right to a good nights sleep"

Reflections Week 1

REFLECTIONS ON WEEK 1
  1. Are there any factors that you think are going to affect your participation or experience in this class? Access to a computer?  Mobile/smart phone?  Transportation?  Friends/family? Schedule?
  2. Think of an awesome best ever learning experience that changed you. What did you learn? Where were you? What happened? Who else was there? Did it teach you anything about how you learn (or pay attention... or remember, or think?) How did you know what was happening?
  3. What are you most [excited/concerned] about in this class? What do you look forward to in learning?  How do you think it can/will make a practical difference in your life?

\1. Time would be something that would dramatically impact my class work and participation. Because I am yet to drive I have to work around my parents schedule. Usually meaning I do not get  home before 8/9. leaving me with no internet access for most of the day.

2. One of my best learning experiences I have had recently would be one I had over the summer. As I volunteered over the summer with a local Boys and Girls Club I learned a lot about myself. I learned I had way more patients than I thought I did. Working with kids was one thing, but working with kids of different backgrounds was a challenge. I won't forget the siblings that made me want to pull my hair out the very first weeks. As challenging as they were I learned of there background. All they really needed was someone to point out when they did something good, instead of the staff always pointing out when they did bad. As soon as I did so, they began to love the feeling of the positive attentions. I turned from their worst enemy to one of there closest staff members. That alone taught me a lot. We focus to much on the negative rather in the positive. As well as we tend to lack in the area of showing ach other affection now and days.

3. I am most excited for the outcome I will get of the class. Such as just learning more and being more aware of things. I'm just excited to finish the course, that alone would make me feel so great knowing I decided to challenge myself. I feel like it can make a difference in my life, showing me various of writing techniques and what not ; that I might have not learned otherwise.

Notes
As I tried to apply myself into taking the test; I challenged a bit to focus. The first time I ever saw an AP test was around September of last year as our teacher prepared us to test in the later months of that year. Our English teacher always had us test and in the duration of a class period. Although I agree on getting better with focusing. I still struggle with my timing. As I did on last years AP test.

Poetry #1

1) Poem is that of Charles Bukowski " The Laughing Heart"

2) What make is ironic is that it repeats the words " your life is your life". But yet it is used to advertise the famous brand of jeans Levi's . The commercial tries to convince it's audience to fall into the urge to be like everyone else.

3) I was unsure of Charles Bukowski which lead me to look him up. I learned of his reputation, which the poem reflects. The poem encourages viewers take charge in what they believe. But in reality that was exactly what Bukowski was doing.

4) I found the answer for number one by simply looking up the title of the video. Also leading me into the #3

My Big Question

After a busy and tiring weekend I have finally got around to catching up in class. Although I was a bit unsure of staying in AP; I have decided to do so ! My first post being My Big Question, has turned to My Big Question(s) .

1) What does it truly mean to succeed? Do we all have the same idea of what success is?
2) Does our background keep us from achieving ? Even when we try so hard to do good.
3) Are 8th grade teachers truly preparing students for High School ? Are all teachers even teaching as they are suppose to ? Are they challenging students?
4) Am I the only one who seems to think teaching has become like a police job? Like the old joke goes, cops like donuts. Giving the allusion of laziness. Do the actions of teachers now in days cause the dramatic decrease in success?
5) Will the success of one sibling influence the success of another?
6) Why do we get so use to our everyday routine? Causing us to distant ourselves from the closest people in our lives.
7) Why we ALL seem to focus more on the negative than the positive? (especially parents)
